Our agricultural appeal

In 2011, farming and culture that are firmly rooted in Noto was globally recognized, and became the first region in Japan to be recognized as a GIAHS (Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems) site by the Food and Agriculture Organization. One of the most appealing factors about carrying out agriculture in Noto is that farmers are not limited to the act of farming alone – it is also about the lifestyle that surrounds the farms and the enjoyment that it offers. Farming is not only about harvesting various crops – including spring onions, capsicum, and rice – it is also about making rice cakes with glutinous rice that you produced, make miso with soy beans, or make fertilizers with leftover food and kitchen waste. What is most appealing about farming in Noto is the ability to enjoy the things that the nature offers, including cultivated fields.
